In 2016, it became evident that the enterprise reporting tool we had for surfacing National Collections data severely needed an upgrade for it to be supported and fit-for-purpose.

Rather than just upgrading the software, we decided that we, as National Collections, needed to start moving from being gatekeepers to being shopkeepers of data. We wanted to create a culture where people actively engage with data to inform their day-to-day work.
